Yesterday I got back from the most lovely trip with my parents, two grandmas, big brother, sister-in-law and sweet nephew. I had a great time lounging around, eating lots of food, playing beach volleyball, boogie boarding, wave stomping and scrabble playing. Surprisingly, this was the first trip I’ve ever taken with my big brother…ever. In our almost 28 years of being siblings we’ve never been anywhere together and I hope it will now become a more frequent, perhaps annual, event.

Of all the things I’ll remember from this trip, there is one thing I will cherish forever. During dinner on our last night, my nephew, Forrest, got up out of his chair, came over to me, gave me a hug and said,”I love you. You’re one of my best friends.”

What aunt’s heart wouldn’t melt. I was sure to tell him that I love him very much too and he’s one of my best friends, too.
