the noises are off again

noisesoffshow

I am, once again, playing Poppy in the play Noises Off at the Civic Light Opera in Redondo Beach

I was last in this show in January of 2004, which seems like a whole other lifetime to me now. We began rehearsals on Wednesday and it was amazing how quickly all the lines and blocking came back to me. It all came rushing back like it was yesterday. Then today, I had my costume fitting and most everything was the same; the sweater, the skirt, the boots and the stopwatch.

I really love the new cast members and am having a great time rediscovering the humor and the wonderful ridiculousness of this show!

I hope you can come see it, ’cause Poppy is back and she’s better than ever!

Reawakening

Last weekend I stepped back on stage for the first time since January 2004. I am understudying in a wonderful play called Cubicles at Alliance Repertory Company and I had 3 performances last weekend.

I was nervous and calm and excited and anxious all at the same time ~ it was a feeling like when you’re about to see someone special after a very long absence. The character I was playing was very unlike any other I’ve played, a character that perhaps I wouldn’t have been as suited for 2 years ago. I think it has been very good for me to have some time away from the one thing that has always consumed my life, but after all was said and done, I felt so good!

For me, there is nothing like being on stage ~ the feeling of stepping into the darkness, waiting for the lights to rise and illuminate me, the audience energy when they are completely with you in the story of the play, the rush of each moment between two actors, and the silent moment at the play’s finish just before the audience erupts into applause.

I am so grateful to my family and friends who came to see me! Thank you Mom, Dad, Robert, Sheila, Amanda, Mike, Saba, Neil, Cami, Sean, Sujata, Alesha, Paul, Amy & Kristina for sharing this reawakening with me…

(And then last night, I got a job offer to join the cast of Noises Off down here in Redondo Beach)

Going On

ACTOR
When you’re understudying and you have to actually perform the role, they call it “going on”.

I will be going on the whole weekend of May 4th, 5th & 6th (Thursday – Saturday). So you have 3 chances to see me back on stage in a role that is definitely new for me!!

I’ll share more details as it gets closer…

I will study, under!

I recently auditioned for a play at my theatre company, which I did not get cast in…

But then, today, I was offered the opportunity to understudy the role I was called back for and I decided to go for it! I will be able to perform the role at least once, if not a few times. The role is scary, but luckly, as the understudy, there is less pressure ~ enough to let me relax and simply recreate the role when I perform. (Although the pressure is definitely there the night you step out to actually do the role)

The play is called “Cubicles”, the character is Shana, and I will ‘go on’, as they say, sometime between the end of April and the beginning of June. So, hopefully you’ll be able to come see me in my first return to the stage in 2 years.

Gulp.
