it’s a…

BOY!
We were right – we have our little Jack Lawrence growing wildly and squirming like a little worm. In our ultrasound we saw him being very active (a movement junkie, like Mom), open and close his mouth (a talker, like Dad) and placing his hand dramatically over his brow several times (a taste for the dramatic, like his parents). Yes, this baby is definitely our child! (We also think he has my nose).

Check out his little hand over his brow…

(the video is a bit long, but you’ll see us discover his boy parts and all sorts of squirming)

Our ultrasound tech, Jennifer, was so sweet – we loved her.

We are so thrilled!

bragging rights!

My husband is a semi-finalist in the 2011 Slamdance Screenwriting & Teleplay Competition for his Spec episode of Mad Men!!!

Click right here to check out the website with his name & script listed under the “Teleplay” list.

I would like to point out that he is one of only 8 Semi-Finalists in this category (out of hundreds of submissions, I’m pretty sure). I would also like to mention that this was the first tv script he’s written – Ever. That’s hot!

He rocks and I couldn’t be prouder.

catch up #5: late july/early august

We took a vacation to Costa Rica in late July/early August. We had a splendid time! When we booked the trip we had plans to try all kinds of wild adventures like zip-lining, canyoning, repelling waterfalls and the like. But of course when we learned about our pregnancy, we amended our plan and enjoyed less wild adventures such as hiking, beach bumming and sailing. It was still a fabulous trip…

We began our trip in the Arenal Volcano area, where, as you’ll see, there is a large, active volcano – which was right outside the floor-to-ceiling patio window of our first hotel. Amazing to see it’s grandness…

In this area we hiked to a waterfall, explored hanging bridges through a canopy and drove very bumpy roads.

Our second location was in Manuel Antonio, where there is an amazing state park in which to see many animals. It is also very close by some amazing beaches.

We saw sloths, reptiles, butterflies, birds and 3 kinds of monkeys. We loved it!

The nice thing about our trip (and about Costa Rica) is that it gets dark quite early and so we slept a lot and enjoyed beautiful, clear, early mornings.

I love getting away with R and I hope to do so one more time before Baby K arrives.

april & may 1st-3rd.

There has been so much happening…

First, R’s older brother had his 40th birthday! He and his family came for a visit from Kentucky. It was great to see them, although we really wish we had been able to spend a lot more time with them.

We do not have a shortage of cute nieces and nephews in our family…

Then, we had our 2nd ever S Factor Retreat in Coronado. It was, once again, off-the-hook amazing, inspiring, beautiful and fun! I spent so much time in the sand – in my clothes, getting sandy and enjoying every minute of it.

Each morning we woke up at dawn and worked out on the beach, which was delicious (though chilly).

And on the last night, we had a campfire on the beach, with live drummers and danced and danced in the sand. I can’t really explain it, so the word I will write is: Freedom!

Finally, R and I celebrated our Year Anniversary! I arrived home from the retreat on the day of our anniversary and the next morning, R woke me up super early (4:30am) and we caught a ferry to Catalina Island for a surprise overnight anniversary trip. Catalina is wonder-full!

We rented a blue tandem bicycle (but forgot to photograph it) and rode to the Botanical Garden which is filled with all kinds of succulents and cacti. This was awesome because I happen to love succulents and cacti. It was fun to learn their names and discover some we had never seen before.

This is my favorite kind of succulent plant…

And this cactus had crazy hair…

During our bicycle ride for two we also visited the Wrigley Memorial, built for Mr. Wrigley (of Wrigley Field and Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum fame – he bought Catalina Island way back). It was a lovely memorial with delightful details and a beautiful view.

I had never been to Catalina Island before and loved, loved, loved it. And I love, love, love my husband for being the guy he his, for loving me and for being my partner in the adventure of life.

I am so grateful. So grateful, indeed.

i love dates and birthdays

I can often be a homebody. But I am working on changing this as best I can because I always feel happy when I get my arse out of the house and doing things.

So last night R and I went on a movie date. We saw The Town. Mr. Affleck turns out to be a really good director. Who knew? And the acting was really good, too. So I highly recommend it…

After the movie, we went to one of my friend’s birthday party where we hung out with some of the S gals. We had such great conversation and I just adore celebrating the people in my life.

Happy birthday, Ronda!

happy birthday Ronda

Rory is so good when all the S gals get together. We can be an overwhelming dose of feminine estrogen, but he handles it well. I heart him. Isn’t he cute?

and another thing...

And last night more than one person told us we make such a cute couple…

mr. and mrs. k

Is it ok for me to say I agree?
