‘the civil wars’ in concert

We were thrilled to see the folk-country-Americana duo The Civil Wars in concert the other weekend. R discovered them during an intimate live show in LA several months ago and we both immediately fell madly in love with their music.

They were playing at The Wiltern, a famous LA venue to which I had never been. It was very exciting for me to finally go! Since I’m preggo, we got seats in the balcony so I wouldn’t have to stand for the entire show.

Here we are in a fuzzy photo, waiting for the main show to begin!

If you ever get the chance to see this duo live, go, go, go! It is the most entertaining, honest, charming and sexy show ever because they have amazing chemistry together…

I can’t tell you enough how quickly you should run to get their album, Barton Hollow. Do it. And you’re welcome.

sing to me

Before S Factor my knowledge of music was very narrow. In just over three and a half years (whoa.), my music knowledge and appreciation has grown tremendously…
Before S Factor I listened mostly to pop music, my brother’s music and a dash of folk music. Now my favorite kind of music can’t be pinned down. My love of music is broad and eclectic and weird and unpredictable.

Take, for example, today’s favorites (my favorites change weekly, daily and sometimes hourly):

1) 9 Crimes (Demo Version) by Damien Rice
~His voice just does something to me; it kind of turns me on, it kind of makes me sad and it feels like sweet, gentle kisses caressing my skin. And while the popular version of this song is also amazing, this rawer, heavier version and makes me wild.

2) Ghetto Rock by Mos Def
~Something about this hypnotic drum beat sets my body on fire and I feel like I’m the hottest and most powerful b&%#ch in the room.
Yes, I said it.

3) Boy With A Coin by Iron & Wine
~The snow flurry of instruments mixed with the velvety liquid of his voice quiets my mind, sets my heart on fire and suddenly I feel as though I am completely understood.

I think I have a penchant for males voices. Yum. Yum. Yum.
