The other weekend we enjoyed the overnight company of Lindsey & Joe at our house during their epic road trip to SoCal.

We stayed home for a home-cooked meal and chatted and chatted…

dinner and pinochle - can you say "old people"?

Because I needed to get cat food, we piled in the car and went to Target, which is quite the happening place on a Saturday night – and not just because we were there…

When we returned home, we taught L & J to play pinochle. We feel very successful at showing our friends a good, old-people time.

The next morning we went for brunch and then wished them well on their way to San Diego, but not before some group photos. Check out our self-timer photo skillz…

We had a fun and look forward to another visit any time!

snow weekend!

R and I took a weekend getaway to Big Bear Lake where we enjoyed the snow and some quiet time together. It was absolutely splendid!

We stayed in a little bed & breakfast cabin which was adorned in big, beautiful icicles…

On Saturday, R had a fun afternoon of skiing…

And I got to wander around town in my favorite pink cat hat before meeting R at the lodge for a late lunch.

Thank goodness we live close enough to the mountains to enjoy some real Winter weather in December! We think we feel a family habit forming…

a family baby shower

A few weekends ago, my Northern California family threw me a baby shower! We had it early (I was 27 weeks) so that it wouldn’t be too uncomfortable for me to travel in the car for 6 hours to get there. I was so happy to get to see everyone on my Mom’s side of the family since it has become much rarer since my parents moved to Southern California. My cousin and my aunts hosted the party and it was a lovely time!

The food was delicious and displayed so wonderfully…

We played some fun shower games, ate delicious baby-cupcakes, enjoyed “baby-boy” themed mints and took home cutely packaged favors…

Jack received many packages that I opened for him (wink)…

He got lots of adorable clothes, which now hang in the hall closet next to his daddy’s jackets (so cute)…!

And my Aunt Susan made this amazing blanket and an unbelievably sweet vintage-style sock monkey {not pictured}…

Thank you, NorCal family, for a fabulous shower! I love you all.

catch-up: visits all around

It seems I am always playing catch-up on this blog. I am so very behind in sharing our activities from this Fall…

In September we went down to San Diego area to see my friend Liz during her last Summer session at the Del Mar Racetrack. We had a good time watching horses race and betting in our heads. Luckily we did not bet any real money because we didn’t do that well in picking the winners. I am seduced by cool horse names, or how the horse looks, which I learned is not the way to decide.

Sadly I did not take any photos of Liz (duh!), but she took some photos of us…

She also helped us win a million dollars! (or look like we did…)

Thank you, Liz for a fun day and for letting stay overnight at your house!

In early October I went to work in NYC for ten days. Look at the beautiful view from my airplane window…

I was able to visit with my cousin and her two cute boys, which was nice…

I also had the chance to fly up to Rochester, NY to visit with my Grandma on my days off, which was fabulous! She turned 99 in September and is doing great. It was fun to catch up with her. If we look a little tired in this photo, it’s because it was early in the morning; please excuse us…

I asked my Grandma to direct me to see the house where my Dad grew up, which was cool. Grandma said there were only a few changes, at least from what we could see on the outside…

We also drove by my Dad’s high school and grammar school. I liked seeing places from my Dad’s history!

I was able to catch up with my Uncles over dinner, which was fantastic because I never get to see them, let alone hang out with them for any period of time…

Back in NYC, I finished up a Teacher Training session and was proud to graduate 10 amazing new Teachers! Can’t you see how awesome they are by how much they glow?

All in all, I had a good trip to New York – work, pleasure and all…

Then, my friend Lindsey came for a visit during the last weekend of October and we had a great time talking, sharing and being lazy. We even took naps, like only great friends can do without feeling bad about it. This is the only photo I have of our time together; I think we are cute…
