Dancing

I just finished watching a re-visioned version of the contemporary classic film “Dirty Dancing”. The theme is the same, but it is set in Cuba on the eve of the revolution, just before Batista fled the country and Castro took over. The new film is called “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights”. I was entranced by the latin music & dancing…and I long to get back on the dance floor, dancing merengue or salsa. The rhythms and body motions are so beautiful and sexy—I see it as a real celbration of the human form and spirit.

I’ve always thought that I was born in the wrong era. I envy the times when couples really danced together. A time when there were basic steps that people knew and could embelish how they wished, or dared. These days it’s hard to find people who really love to dance. There has yet to be a new kind of dance for the current generation. We don’t have the fox trot, the lindy or the waltz. We have “shaking all around” or worse yet, “grinding”. Or you dance solo in large groups, which can be nice for awhile, but sometimes lonely.

When I lived in Mexico I learned to dance a little merengue and even less salsa—I was never so happy…good dancing is mesmerizing to watch and exhilerating to experience!

I need lessons.

  1. I am! On saturday…

Salsa dancing here I come! (And I’m going alone, so I get extra points)

  2. I went, it was fun, I felt the latin heat…
